The rise of the word Epistemology – just a thought.

So while I was looking up the definition for the word “epistemology” to make sure I hadn’t misunderstood it and thus possibly rendered my understanding of the text I was reading lopsided, I came across this statistic: Screen shot 2014-07-21 at 10.33.35 PM

If the word means a theory of knowledge, and thus would imply a study of it, I thought the sudden spike of its use in the late 90’s might mean an increased study of knowledge produced preceding that time in order to produce conflated theories whereas the flatline in the 1800’s might be because of the continuous production of new knowledge, for which that period is famed.

Just a though.
